Dragontail Shadowfire: Best Price in October 2026 + Where to Buy
As of October 2026, the Dragontail Shadowfire 365 tenkara rod, sold as a complete starter kit, is priced at around $114 at Dragontail Tenkara directly, about $114 on Amazon, and around $114 at Walmart. The best price right now is roughly $114 for the full kit, which includes the rod, line, tippet, flies, a storage tube, and a rod sock. Like most tenkara gear, the price is fairly consistent across the few sellers that carry it, so the decision is more about where you prefer to buy than about hunting a lower number.

Price History and Context
The Dragontail Shadowfire 365 complete kit sells for around $114 and holds that price consistently across the sellers that carry it. As a value-focused tenkara brand, Dragontail prices the Shadowfire as an affordable entry point, and it doesn't discount dramatically, the value is baked into the everyday price and the fact that it's a complete kit rather than a bare rod. What you're really comparing against isn't a cheaper Shadowfire elsewhere, it's whether a bare rod plus separately-bought line and flies would cost you more (it usually would). At $114 for everything you need to start, it's already priced as the deal.
Which Retailer to Buy From
Since the price is consistent, buy from whoever you trust and prefer. Buying directly from Dragontail Tenkara gets you the source, the company's well-regarded customer service, and the easiest path to replacement parts like tip sections, which matters on a telescoping rod. Dragontail's support reputation is one of the brand's real strengths.
Amazon is the convenient option with fast Prime shipping and easy returns; confirm the listing is sold by Dragontail or Amazon rather than an unrelated third party. Walmart carries it too, sometimes a couple of dollars higher. The big-box fishing retailers don't stock tenkara, which is normal for the category. For a beginner especially, buying direct from Dragontail is a solid choice for the support alone, but Amazon is perfectly fine if you value the shipping and return convenience.
Our Take
The Shadowfire kit is the tenkara starting point I'd point most beginners to, because getting the rod, line, tippet, and flies in one box for around $114 removes every bit of guesswork. Tenkara is the simple, light corner of fly fishing I keep getting drawn to for small streams, and a complete kit like this is the easiest possible on-ramp. Dragontail's value and customer service are genuinely good. The honest note is that it's a value rod, not a premium one, if you want the original brand and its pedigree, the Tenkara USA Iwana is the step up, at a higher price and without the included kit. For getting started well without overspending, the Shadowfire is hard to beat.

The price is consistent across sellers, so it comes down to where you prefer to buy.
Is $114 a good price for the Dragontail Shadowfire? Yes, especially because it's a complete kit. For around $114 you get the rod, line, tippet, flies, a storage tube, and a rod sock, which would cost more bought separately. It's priced as an affordable, all-in-one entry into tenkara.
Does the Dragontail Shadowfire come as a kit? Yes. The Shadowfire 365 is sold as a complete starter package including the 12-foot rod, furled line, tippet, flies, a storage tube, and a rod sock. That all-in-one bundle is a big part of its value for beginners.
Where can I buy the Dragontail Shadowfire? From Dragontail Tenkara directly, Amazon, Walmart, and some fly shops like Leland Fly Fishing. Buying direct from Dragontail gets you the best access to customer service and replacement parts; the big-box fishing retailers don't carry tenkara.
